“Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.” – Hamilton Wright Mabie
During WWI, a sudden peace broke out along the front. Soldiers sang “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night) and played soccer on the battlefield under the moonshine. Not just in one location, but spontaneously in trenches hundreds of miles apart peace reigned albeit briefly.
If during one of the fiercest, bloodiest and brutal wars of history differences could be set aside for a few hours, can we do any less?
The world has become darker and nastier this century. There is less hope and an undercurrent of anger. Yet for this season at least we can be better.
Peace on earth, love in our hearts for our fellow man and woman.
