“I think I was better off when I was hungry, and fightin’ off wolves from our front door.” Merle Haggard
The champ is never as hungry as the challenger, and the wolf on top of the mountain is never as hungry as the one climbing to the top.
When you are still battling your way to the top, you maintain that edge of desperation and innovation that makes you unique and gives you the competitive advantage. You want it more, because you have barely tasted success as opposed to the one that has won it all and is sitting atop the mountain looking down and facing multiple challenges from the new hungry competitor as well as the government and human nature of relaxing instead of pushing themselves to new heights.
Success is the most dangerous enemy of them all. Never give in to its Siren song.
Stay hungry.
