“I’m trying to win the Super Bowl. That’s a team award and that’s what I want.” Lamar Jackson
Personal accolades are wonderful, but being the best player on a bad team is lonely. Getting hardware is nice for the mantelpiece, but the experience of triumphing with your team is a feeling and stories you will retell and revel in for the rest of your days.
An executive may be awarded massive stock options and generate wealth for themselves, but if their organization is failing and they are people of integrity, they should feel almost unclean for the rewards they receive.
Individual awards that do not contribute to team success don’t feel right. Displaying them is selfish, putting your numbers ahead of the record and results of the group.
Better to be a champion than the diva with all the attention but lacking the champion resume.
