Close Mouth, Open Ears

“You can be pretty smart if you shut up.”  Dr. Jordan B Peterson

If I listen, I learn.

Not listening to formulate a response or my witty comeback, but really listening with the intent of understanding.

What is their underlying assumptions, and what experiences helped them formulate those fundamental assumptions that they are built off of?

Why do they see the world through the lens that they do?

What knowledge do they have that I can partake of?  What insights have they gleaned that could take me weeks or decades to replicate?

When your mouth is going, usually your ears aren’t working.  You are broadcasting instead of receiving, and having your rabbit ears up lets you learn.
