“Only the player with the initiative has the right to attack.”
Wilhelm Steinitz
When it isn’t your turn you can’t attack, whether in chess or Risk or relationships or negotiations.
Turn based games are not exactly reality but do force you to wait your turn, often in a vulnerable position during which the other players make their moves. This does simulate real life in that we are often powerless, unable to do anything other than observe and think. It is in these moments when we see our mistakes, see what we could have and should have done, and hopefully learn so that in future games we don’t make the same mistakes.
And when we see that they have made a mistake, that they have left an opening? Demonstrate initiative and attack, as it is the only way to win.
