“The Pawns are the soul of the game.”
Francois Andre Danican Philidor
The Bishops wield power and the Towers provide protection. Knights ride out and protect the King, whose weakness is protected by the Queen. But who is on the front lines?
The pawns are inevitably the early ones in battle, sacrificed in the grand scheme of things to open advantages for the more powerful and mobile pieces. They are the weakest and most numerous on the board, and generally support the more powerful.
Yet they determine the landscape.
They influence the balance of power.
Ultimately, a pawn can become a power piece, anything they desire. Even a Queen.
Pawns represent the potential of a person to rise above their initial place in life to become noble and noteworthy. You just have to keep moving forward.
