“Oh, boy! I can’t wait to see my pals!” Donald Duck
Anticipation creates dopamine, and as long as you don’t short circuit the process with cheap hits (like on your phone or any other reward without risk, work, and appropriate deference of gratification) the wait is worth it, especially if it is a reward that in and of itself has positive aspects like socialization with people you love.
Strong personal relationships are a critical component of a healthy society and individual. It is one of the keys to longevity and mental health. Friends share emotional burdens, give us reason to laugh, and create a sense of moral obligation to take our medicine and care for ourselves so that we can continue to enjoy their company. The bonds of friendship give us something to pull on in tough times and make us all stronger.
Plan to see your pals. They miss you too, and planning a get together is one of the healthiest things you can do.
