Basis of All Other Virtues

“Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior.”

-Carl von Clausewitz

Courage is not the absence of fear but the action even when afraid.

The soldier facing danger to protect the civilians.

The child going through chemo.

The broken woman going through counseling to face what happened in her past to heal herself.

The whistleblower, risking their career.

The bullied, standing up even though they know they will get hurt.

A warrior needs skill, needs strength, but most of all they need the courage to overcome the paralyzing terror to do what they must.  Especially in the face of overwhelming odds and pain, because that is what heroes do.
