Instead of hoping for the external entity to assist you (God, the scholarship committee, the lottery numbers, that particular someone) exert the effort and use your skills to open the door.
Do the work, don’t just pray. As St. Benedictine instructed: ora et labora. Pray AND work. The Universe will show you the way, but you have to walk the path to get to the destination.
