“Be near your brothers.” -Fyodor Dostoevsky
Presence is the greatest of presents.
It is good to be around those you love. It increases social bonding, produces oxytocin and valprosin, and keeps our nervous systems healthy.
Proximity sometimes can give rise to stupidity (as any travel team parent can attest) but creates memories and bonds that last a life time.
Steve Jobs wanted the Apple headquarters to have hallways conducive to random encounters and long walks, so that people could interact and share ideas. You can’t bump into someone in a Zoom room this way. Being near those who you are close to will bring you closer.
