“Brotherhood is an ideal better understood by example than precept.”
-Paramahansa Yoganada
Lots of Fraternities talk about Brotherhood. How many exhibit it?
When my guy Christian needed a new kidney, over 100 of us got tested to see who a match for him would be. JP was the winner and had the honor of literally giving a piece of himself to save his Brother’s life.
Sitting with another after a heartbreak, be it the divorce or the loss of a sibling.
Bringing someone into your home so they are not alone, and sharing the food of your table and family with them.
Being with them through their cancer journey. Or celebrating their ringing the bell at the end.
The lessons of Fraternity and Brotherhood are not limited of Greek organizations but should carry beyond those walls into how we treat all of mankind. Don’t speak of a brotherhood of man, live it.
