Playoff Baseball

“October baseball is what it’s all about.” – James A. Winnefeld, Jr.

Offseason training.  Preseason instruction and game simulations.  162 regular season games, all to get to the most important and maddening part of the year: postseason baseball.

This is when the air of crisp and there is a whiff of desperation in the air, especially if a hero whiffs at the plate and your team is down in the late innings because unlike the regular season there might not be another game.

This is when legends are made, from homer hitting Yankees Mr. October to Mr. November, and Don Larson to Roy Halladay tossing no-hitters.  It is Dave Roberts’ steal and Bucky Dent’s miscue, Mazeroski and Gibson’s walk-offs.  It is Curses being broken and benchwarmers having a moment in the sun.

October baseball.  The most wonderful time of the year.
