“They want to make every game important, when they have.” -Urban Meyer
When football only had 10 games a year, every game was important and as such coaches like Vince Lombardi demanded everything from every man on every play.
When only the Division Champion made the playoffs, every game in the baseball season was important because you couldn’t back your way into the playoffs and hope to get hot at the right time. At bats were never given away, and every pitch was a microbattle to be won or lost.
When every client meeting could be the most important of their financial future, you bring your best all the time.
When sobriety is the goal, every day is the most important day of the journey. You can give in to the call of the bottle, but NOT TODAY.
Too many people are lackadaisical about life, strolling through it as if they are without a care in the world and they are as immortal as the Elves of early Middle Earth. They act like they have unlimited time and that they are merely passing through this world instead of being a critical part of it, here for an indeterminant limited time.
Others rush pell-mell, hurtling headlong towards something but oblivious to the moments as they pass. They see not the people around them and are focused on the goal in the distance or the future opponent and as such often stumble before getting there.
Do not skip through your days. Don’t run through life. Nor saunter. Walk with intent and purpose in the world, aware of your surroundings but focused on what you need to do. Move through your days as if what you are doing and becoming is important, because it is.
