Everyone wants to be like So and So, to copy their style and hopefully their success. But being even 99% of someone else, no matter how successful, is not as good as being 100% true to yourself.
Being real is the best there is.
Being authentic is powerful, it speaks with a voice that can not be replicated nor copied.
Many great composers started out trying to sound like another, tried to be like those that inspired them. But once they discovered their own voice and went off in their own direction is when they would come into their own.
