“Trips and vacations are so much more. These experiences show you what’s possible and challenge you to examine the paths you’ll take in the future.”
– Blake Mycoskie
“I could never do that!” Whether it is someone talking to me about running an ultramarathon or a buddy talking about quitting his high pressure and compensation job to start his own business, that statement (I can’t do that) is exactly why they can’t and won’t: because they can’t conceive of it so they will never achieve it.
The person that says “Woah, that’s cool. How did you do that?!” is multiple steps ahead in that they already believe it is possible and are trying to understand the steps and hurdles. Maybe they don’t want to run 100 miles or open a hang-gliding shop, but they are asking the questions of an open future, where they are not stuck in a rut on a path that they hate but are unwilling to deviate from.
Seeing something different, be it a more laid-back culture or a lifestyle someone has built by changing their choices and direction opens up the concept of new possibilities, refreshing the spirit and awakening dreams. Exactly what vacations are for.
