Wake Up Call

“Sometimes it takes a wake-up call, doesn’t it, to alert us to the fact that we’re hurrying through our lives instead of actually living them.”  -Carl Honore

The cancer scare.

Your kid getting in a car accident.

The call “Dad fell.”

The sudden layoff.

They cheat.

All the bolts from the blue that suddenly and irrevocably change us and make us say “What the hell have I been doing?!”

We slow down, change our actions, and savor the moments while becoming more emotionally invested.

We say no to things that a month ago we would have killed for.

Like Scrooge having the Dickens scared out of him, the radical vision of what could be makes us appreciate what is.

Wake up and slow down before it is over.
