“The goal is not to be better than the other man, but better than your previous self.” The Dalai Lama
Better than the day before. This is the goal for anyone training or recovering.
It does not matter how much someone else has if you have enough. There is no need to be jealous if you are full on the inside and instead of desiring to climb the corporate pyramid or social strata, you focus on becoming self-actualized and climbing Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.
Ruelle and Hemingway said the same thing as The Dalai Lama: no other person is your opponent, you are your only enemy. Defeat your ego, let yourself free of comparison and accept your gifts and faults while working to better yourself. This is a worthy mission, one that can inspire you to the end of your days.
