“Running is the classical road to self-consciousness, self-awareness, and self-reliance.” — Noel Carroll
It is through adversity that we discover ourselves, through challenges we face and overcome that we develop our character and capacity.
There are no saber-toothed tigers chasing us today. We are not running for our lives, be it to escape the predator or because we are the predator trying to feed our family. At least in the literal sense.
But learning to pursue a goal, to chase something we desire and push hard and harder and close the gap and take it down? That is the essence of success. Pushing ourselves when we don’t have to means we can do so when it really matters, even if it is in a non-physical manner.
Pushing ourselves past our previous limits, questioning ourselves and our abilities and then proving that we have more, can become more, and can do it on our own solely through what we can muster from within is the essence of running and repeatable success.
